In the month of October, a man by the name Steven paddock went down in history for the world’s worst mass shooting. About a month past and we all thought everything was fine, but today on Sunday, 11/5/17 a shooter went into a local church and opened in gunfire. It was a very bad event and many people were terrified. Something we didn’t want to happen, happened again.
First I should say the name of the church, which is First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs Texas. In this massacre a man by the name of Devin Kelley, came in the church and started to shoot. It took a while for them to be able to stop the him. In total 27 people died and 20 people were injured. The wounded were taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and to area hospitals, a local official said. A young man standing outside the hospital, his head bandaged and his right arm taped from where an IV had been put in, said he had been wounded in the shooting and that this father had been killed. His mother was in another hospital. He declined to talk, but expressed faith that they would pull through with God's help.
Many people’s families were affected. Amanda Mosel's 13-year-old goddaughter was gunned down in the shooting. With tears in her eyes, the 34-year-old stood outside the Sutherland Springs Community Building where citizens gathered following the shooting. "From what I've heard, someone just walked in and started shooting," she said. Mosel said she "sadly" didn't attend church this morning, but the church is one she's attended. "There are maybe 50 of us," she said. "It's a small, tight-knit church." Devy Collins, 53, said one of the church pastor's children was killed. The pastor and his wife were out of town when the shooting occurred. At least 10 victims were transported to Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, said spokeswoman Megan Posey. She could not speak to their age or gender, but said there are multiple victims with gunshot wounds, and some have had to be taken by helicopter to a different treatment center. According to a Twitter post, University Hospital's trauma team is caring for nine of the patients from the Sutherland Springs shooting, which are 4 children, and 5 adults. The hospital reported one more victim is on the way.
As you can see shootings like this, have an effect on many people. Though people say this should stop, not many people doing anything to change it. I feel that with us just sitting, feeling sad, and not taking action, we are allowing for this to happen again. Churches should look at this as an example to improve security in their church, because times are only going to get worst.
War is a very serious thing and something not to joke about. War leads to many innocent killings and has a bad effect. Sometimes war can even destroy a whole country, but our president Mr. Trump and the president of North Korea Kim Jong-un seems to be neglecting these facts.
Recently Mr. Trump and Kim Jong-un got into a war of words because Kim Jong-un was dong his nuclear testing. He let off about six nukes already. Despite sanctions being place on North Korea there still wasn’t enough to stop them from doing nuclear testing. Guam and Japan are two of the countries that North Korea did there testing in close vicinity. During all of this Donald trump and Kim Jong-un exchanged some words. First Mr. Trump started by calling him a rocket man in his speech, while making his address to the United Nations. As stated by thoughtCo, “the United Nations is an international organization designed to make the enforcement of international law, security, economic development, social progress, and human rights easier for countries around the world”. This organization, which was established is 1919 promotes justice, freedom, and social progress for the peoples of all of its member states. In response to this Kim Jong-un called Donald Trump a dotard, meaning an old man. He also said “Trump was a mentally deranged person full of megalomania” meaning craving power. In my opinion Kim Jong-un shouldn’t be talking because on CBS2 it was shown that the kids in North Korea had to worship him as if he was a god. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the situation “a kindergarten fight between children and no one can stop them.” Since this incident china is increasing its sanctions.
In conclusion power is something not to joke around with. War is something that should always be avoided and always be used as a last resort. Both of these men honestly don’t know the effect this could all have on the world, so I hope that these two men can reach a settlement.
A War of Words
Hello 12th grade self, how are you. Today you finally graduated high school. I know this journey has been exciting, but also have had its ups and downs. I hope you enjoy this letter from your 7th grade self.
Well first obviously, congrats on graduating high school, but there are many other goals you’ve done too. Congrats on keeping your average 90 and up, I am very proud. I am also proud that you are either salutatorian or valedictorian. Congrats on also being the captain of the swimming team too. I am also extremely proud that you got accepted into an Ivy League school and getting a full scholarship. I don’t know the reason you got it, maybe it was your swimming, or music, or grades, or even ALL of them, but congrats. Overall you have achieved a lot of goals.
Next I want to talk about your struggles. I know it has been hard juggling your swimming and your basketball. You love both, but it’s good that you made sure you still did your work though you got frustrated. I know another struggle was not getting into the class you wanted, and got somewhere you didn’t like. Furthermore I know your homework made you lose sleep. Doing sometimes 2 or even 3 essays a night, but you still made it. Even though you had these struggles and many more, you still persevered.
Now I will talk about your greatest lesson learned, don’t procrastinate. I know you like to have fun and get distracted, but you did lose some points because of your procrastination. On several occasions, you might’ve had the essay for maybe 3 days and you leave it for the last night. Then other teachers have given you more homework and you have to lose more sleep. You even sometimes leave projects for last minute and end up getting a lower grade. It has affected your grade a lot, so that’s why it’s your biggest lesson and also don’t do it anymore.
Lastly I want to talk about your future. In a few months you will be in your Ivy League school studying Law. In the four years you will maintain your 90 average. In the school there will be a lot of competition, but you will be number one. After you graduate or during school you will find your wife. You will then continue your lawyer career and will be happy.
The early pre-European contact Native American cultures begin as a egalitarian social systems and move to somewhat of a complex society by the end of archaic period to the beginning of the formative period. The pre-European periods are divided in three periods which are Paleo-Indian period, archaic period and the formative period. The Native Americans did not move to a complex society as we know it today with the development of states characterized by large industrial and service sectors, high levels of gross national product
According to cabrillo.edu/~crsmith/anth7_hist1.html in the beginning which was the Paleo-Indian period Native Americans lived in small groups and all was considered to be equal in rank. They moved from one place to another as a family mostly concentrated on food, clothes, and shelter. In this period these people didn’t have any towns formed. They cooked their food in the open flames and as they hunt their animals they moved. They used the skins of the large animals to make clothes and shelter. This period ends as the ice melts. Here is where the second period begins which is the archaic period. In this period the Native Americans started to move everywhere in America and everywhere inhabitable in the continents. Over time, they changed from a nomadic society to a sedentary settlement increasingly varied Indian cultures evolved so that by the end of the archaic period, North America was a veritable patchwork of differing cultures, languages, and societies. Towns were developed and they started living in large groups. Soci-politically they started to differentiate between different classes of people and government was form. They started to manufacture pottery and used agriculture to engage in trade. In the formative period which is between 3000-5000 years ago the people started to form cities, engage in fulltime agriculture, and started to trade over long distances. Boats were developed for this type of trading.
In conclusion due to the hard work the Native Americans had put in the beginning, America has evolved into a great nation. Clearly, their work ethic and their drive to survive can be seen even up today, despite them being the minority.
